The Council can approve settings outside the general education system, so that teaching experience gained at these institutions can be recognised for the renewal of a practising certificate.
The general education system refers to registered schools, early childhood services and other institutions and services established or provided for under the Education Act 1989 or 1964.
Institutions outside of the general education system who want their staff teaching experience recognised for the renewal of practising certificates, need to apply to the Council to become an approved institution. Approvals will be granted for up to three years. At the end of the term of an approval, your institution must make a new application to the Council for approved institution status.
